This cannot be real…
Nearly a month to the day after the Presidential candidate shamed former Miss Universe Alicia Machado for her weight, Miss Iceland was just treated to similarly disgusting sexism on an International scale.
Apparently, 20-year-old Arna ├â┬¥r J├â┬│nsd├â┬│ttir was scheduled to take part in the Miss Grand International competition this week… but quit on Sunday after being told she was too fat for the events.
According to the Icelandic beauty, Thai TV presenter/MGI owner Nawat Itsaragrisil ordered his staff to give Arna some awful advice just four days before she took the stage, saying:
“Stop eating breakfast, eat just salad for lunch, and drink water every evening until the contest.”
But what’s worse is that Nawat allegedly thought this was a compliment as he reportedly “wanted her to do well in the contest!”
Luckily, Arna immediately stuck up for herself — speaking to the Iceland Monitor about her body-positive message, saying:
“If the owner of the contest really wants me to lose weight and doesn’t like me the way I am, then he doesn’t deserve to have me in the Top 10. Yes, my shoulders are a bit broader than the other girls’, but that is because I was a member of the Icelandic national athletics team and I am proud of that. Personally, I think I’m fine as I am.
No arguments here!
Still… a prepared statement through the press wasn’t enough for Arna.
“I’m going to stand up for myself, all women, and the Icelandic nation. I’m not going to let them say that I have too much fat to be on stage.”
We support you 100 percent Arna!
Although, if you haven’t quite yet mastered the language of Iceland…
Ch-ch-check out Arna’s handwritten letter to MGI in English (below)!!!
