Shannon Purser — AKA Barb from Stranger Things — is opening up about her past struggle with self-harm.

Taking to Twitter with a powerful message about overcoming one of life’s toughest battles, the 19-year-old shared a photo of a razor blade with the caption:

The young starlet hopes that her story will help someone else who may be going through the same thing.

Shannon tells ET of her decision to speak out about her painful past:

“I’m so happy to be able to help other people by talking about my struggles. I guess I’d just say, ‘You’re worthy of love, valuable, and beautiful. You can and will get through this.'”


“Getting the help you need to deal with this is a form of self-love and you are worth it.”
