We still can’t believe this is real…
After the nasty race to the White House ended in the most stunning upset in political history, Clinton reportedly called her opponent early Wednesday morning to concede her defeat.
And while our divided country is still trying to process how this actually happened, HRC remained her poised and political self while delivering the heartbreaking news to those who were hoping for a much different result.
Following a heartwarming introduction from running mate Tim Kaine, a visibly upset Hillary spoke to the crowd at New Yorker Hotel’s Grand Ballroom, saying:
“I know how disappointed you feel because I feel it too├óΓé¼┬ª this is painful, and it will be for a long time. Donald trump is going to be our president. We owe him and open mind and a chance to lead.”
Though clearly disappointed in the outcome, the 69-year-old wished her opponent success in the White House, but made sure to tell her supporters to not give up fighting in what they believe is right. She continued:
“Now, our responsibility as citizens is to keep doing our part. To build that better, stronger America that we see. And I know we will. I’m going to stand with all of you.
To the young people in particular i hope you hear this. I have spent my entire adult life fighting for what I believed in├óΓé¼┬ª This loss hurts. But please, never stop believing that fighting for what’s right is worth it.”
As for her resilient female supporters, the former Secretary of State acknowledged that though she wouldn’t be the one to break “that highest and hardest glass ceiling,” she was sure a female president will come sooner than we think.
“To all the women, and especially the young women, who put their faith in me. I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion. I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but i know that someday someone will. And maybe sooner than we think right now.
To all the little girls who are watching this, never doubt you are powerful and valuable and deserving of every opportunity in the world to perceive your own dreams.”
Wow. Even in defeat, her words are so powerful. We just hope President-Elect Trump can be a fraction of a world leader as this brilliant, strong woman.
