On Tuesday evening, the Rise singer made a splash as she stepped out in a stunning Marchesa gown for the UNICEF Snowflake Ball, where she was being honored with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award. And while Miz Perry looked gorgeous on the blue carpet for the event, it was the celebs who turned out to support the A-lister that had tongues waggin’!
In addition to having boyfriend Orlando Bloom and bestie Allison Williams by her side, Katy was surprised with an appearance by Hillary Clinton who presented the pop star with her award. It’s said the former Secretary of State was met with thunderous applause and a standing ovation at the Octavia Spencer-hosted event at Manhattan’s Cipriani Wall Street.
Hillary couldn’t help but gush about the Firework artist as she shared:
“[Katy] has the spirit and the energy and the compassion that Audrey Hepburn brought to her work for UNICEF…someone whose powerful voice and creative lyrics remind us when you get knocked down to get back up.”
True dat! The famed democrat continued:
“She has been a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF since 2013, she has traveled the world advocating for the rights and needs of children, she has visited some of the poorest places on Earth and lent her voice to kids who would otherwise be voiceless from remote villages to Vietnam and Madagascar. She has put a spotlight on child poverty and encouraged the empowerment of women and girls.”
We’re not crying, you are! On her close working relationship with Katy, the longtime politician added:
“I have seen Katy’s commitment to the causes she believes in firsthand. I’ve gotten to spend time with her and I know how deeply she cares about making our world a better place. She is serious about understanding the complex problems we face and pulling people together to solve them. We need champions like Katy now more than ever, her passion, her energy and, yes, her voice, louder than a lion, so, Katy Perry, congratulations and thank you so much.”
Awww! Clearly, Perry was moved by Hillary’s rare public appearance since losing the election as she tearfully noted in her own speech:
Not to mention, the California girl was certainly feeling the love as she was seen cuddling up next to the Lord Of The Rings alum — who ironically won the same award last year. Talk about a match made in heaven!
