This breaks our hearts.
British actor Peter Vaughan, best known in recent years for his pivotal role on Game Of Thrones, has died at 93 years old.
His agent Sally Long-Innes confirmed Vaughan “died peacefully with his family around him,” telling BBC News:
“This is to confirm that very sadly Peter Vaughan passed away at approximately 10:30 this morning.”
The partially blind actor most recently starred as the elderly Aemon Targaryen, Maester of the Night’s Watch, in the HBO fantasy hit in seasons 1-5.
He last appeared in episode 7 of season 5, “The Gift,” where Aemon dropped a few subtle Targaryen hints before passing and being placed on a funeral pyre.
Vaughan is also known for his role as Harry “Grouty” Grout in the classic ’70s BBC sitcom Porridge, in which he appeared in a handful of episodes.
Among the actor’s notable credits includes starring alongside Frank Sinatra in the 1967 spy movie The Naked Runner and with Anthony Hopkins in the 1993 drama The Remains of the Day.
Such a long and prolific career! Our hearts go out to Vaughan’s loved ones at this difficult time.
