And the courtroom drama continues for Bill Cosby…
This time the TV legend’s lawyer Brian McMonagle got into a screaming match with the Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele over the privacy of Cosby’s alleged victims. Intense stuff.
However, prior to the face off before the judge, it said the A-lister was pretty jovial as he entered the Pennsylvania courtroom on Tuesday. Reportedly, the 70-year-old was all smiles as he walked in with his legal team and even joked with the security guards. He quipped:
“Don’t tase me, bro.”
Huh. Nonetheless, things took a somber turn as McMonagle and Steele went head to head before Judge Steven T. O’Neill — who was tasked with deciding whether or not 13 of the alleged victims should be allowed to testify during the trial. Apparently, the D.A. had an issue with the defense’s naming of the victims and even accused the funny man’s attorney of releasing details about the women in order to intimidate them before the trial!
McMonagle clapped back:
“Most of them have been interviewed on television. Who’s hiding names? Some of them have been interviewed for books. Some of them have been on tours… I really don’t care what their names are. Is the world not going to know their names? What are we doing here? This is silly. It really is silly.”
So shady! Still, Brian isn’t necessarily wrong in the sense that 11 of the 13 victims have come forward publicly to speak about their allegations against the comedian. Thankfully, Judge O’Neill has ruled in favor of letting the other two names remain confidential in court documents.
This is the latest legal blow for Team Cosby as the defense hoped to interview the 13 women in person over this two day hearing period — this motion was denied by Judge O’Neill. We’ll be keeping our eyes out for the final ruling on this particular chapter of Bill’s trial saga.
