We’re glad to see Emma Stone speaking out on such an important issue!
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Emma discussed a variety of topics, including her experiences with sexism in Hollywood. The convo couldn’t come at a better time considering a ton of have actresses have recently opened up about gender bias in the industry.
According to Ms. Stone, there have been plenty of times when she felt marginalized and looked over by her directors.
Not only was the actress made to feel like her opinions were “hindering the process,” but she also claims her own jokes were pilfered by her male costars!
The La La Land star revealed:
“There are times in the past, making a movie, when I’ve been told that I’m hindering the process by bringing up an opinion or an idea. I hesitate to make it about being a woman, but there have been times when I’ve improvised, they’ve laughed at my joke and then given it to my male costar. Given my joke away.”
Damn, that must have hurt. It’s especially frustrating considering the 28-year-old is more hilarious than most ANY of her costars!
Sorry, Ryan Gosling. But hey girl, you know what’s up.
“Or it’s been me saying, ├óΓé¼╦£I really don’t think this line is gonna work,’ and being told, ├óΓé¼╦£Just say it, just say it, if it doesn’t work we’ll cut it out’ ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ and they didn’t cut it out, and it really didn’t work!”
Yikes! Let’s just hope 2017 sees less of these types of shenanigans… directors should trust true talents like Emma!
