Which Superhero Was The Top Grossing Actor Of 2016? The Answer May Surprise You…

It’s a good year to be the star of a superhero movie!

That’s what we learned from Forbes‘ list of highest grossing actors of 2016.

To calculate its rankings, the publication added up the 2016 global ticket sales for the top actors’ films, using data from Box Office Mojo — and only included star who were top-billed or had the most screen time.

And unsurprisingly, every actor who made the top ten got there from starring in a movie from the Marvel or DC Comics universe (except for Felicity Jones, who landed at the No. 9 spot for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.)

The list is chock full of leading action heroes (and villains) like Chris Evans, Ben Affleck, Robert Downey Jr., and Ryan Reynolds that have been tearing up the 2016 box office.

So, which action star topped the list of big screen beefcakes and became the top grossing actor of 2016?

Scarlett Johansson!

Drawing in $1.2 billion in global ticketing sales, the Ghost in the Shell actress landed the top spot mostly due to her role as Black Widow in Captain America: Civil War.

While Evans and RDJ tied for second place from the Marvel blockbuster, which became the top-grossing movie of the year at the global box office, ScarJo edged out her fellow Avengers thanks to her role in the Coen Brothers‘ comedy Hail, Caesar!

(BTW, Since Forbes figures didn’t count animated films, Johansson’s voice work in the huge hit The Jungle Book wasn’t even included in her massive total! Now, that’s impressive!)
