The Benny and the Jets singer was in tears during an emotional tribute to his late friend during a Las Vegas concert on Wednesday night.
After singing a song in memory of John Lennon, the 69-year-old fought back tears when he spoke about the late Wham! frontman, telling the audience:
“I only wish George was here to sing it with me.”
Elton then played his ballad Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me, which the duo memorably dueted on back in 1991.
A concertgoer said the singer was consoled by a band member after the performance and the crowd gave him a standing ovation, telling the Daily Mail:
“There were thousands of us in tears, and it was very emotional├óΓé¼┬ª After he sang for George, he turned his back on the audience and was shaking and looked like he was crying. I was in tears and so was everyone around me.”
So heartbreaking. Our hearts go out to Elton and all of George’s loved ones in the wake of yet another legendary loss.
