From Star Wars fans gathering for lightsaber vigils to thousands of parents tweeting photos of their daughters dressed up as the iconic Princess, there’s no doubt Fisher’s character will live on forever.
However, some fans want to memorialize Leia into true cinematic royalty… by asking Disney to crown Carrie’s character as an official Disney Princess!
That’s right! There’s currently a change.org petition online asking the House of Mouse — which bought Lucasfilm in 2012 — to place Leia Organa alongside the ranks of Jasmine, Ariel, Pocahontas, Mulan, and the rest of the gang!
Addressing Disney CEO Bob Iger, the petition reads:
“After the tragic lose [sic] of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated. This would be a wonderful way to remember Carrie and a welcoming to one of Disney’s new properties that is beloved by millions.”
The campaign — which already has over 33,000 supporters — was created by Cody Christensen, a father of five daughters who thought the Star Wars heroine would make a perfect addition to the all-star princess lineup!
He explained to GeekExchange earlier this week:
“We are big fans of the current Princess line-up, but I think that Leia is a really strong, positive, awesome role model for my girls.”
Though becoming an official Disney Princess is no easy feat — not even Frozen‘s Elsa has managed to flurry her way into the coveted ranks just yet.
But if there’s one outsider who can join the exclusive squad, we couldn’t think of a better princess than the Rebel Alliance leader!
Do YOU think Leia should become an official Disney Princess?
