On Thursday, Viola Davis started off the new year right, becoming the first person to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 2017!

The Fences star brought her daughter, Genesis Tennon, to the ceremony, where she was honored by none other than the legendary Meryl Streep!

The 67-year-old absolutely raved about her Doubt costar, telling the crowd:

“She is arguably the most immediate, responsive artist I have ever worked with. She is so alive, she glistens. She is a gift to writers. She plants herself in a scene where she has no words, and she writes paragraphs with her eyes.”

The 51-year-old admitted she was in awe of the honor, exclaiming:

“I cannot believe my life right now, that Meryl Streep spoke at my Hollywood Walk Of Fame ceremony, with my handsome husband, and a beautiful daughter, and my family, and my representatives…it’s like my life flashing before my eyes, and all I can say is God has blessed my life in abundance.”

Despite her best efforts to “treat this like any other day,” the acclaimed actress got emotional, reflecting on her late father:

“Only thing I could think about is my dad. I wish he were here. He died in 2006 and, um, he would think this is pretty fantastic.”

We’re sure he would be very proud of his daughter right now.

You can watch the How To Get Away With Murder alum receive her star (below). Meryl’s speech begins at 8:16, and Viola’s starts at 16:12.
