Somewhere in a studio soundstage, Sarah Paulson just got really excited.
Last November it was reported that Lady GaGa would be playing Donatella Versace in the upcoming third season of American Crime Story, which will explore the 1997 murder of fashion icon Gianni Versace.
But apparently, this perfect casting was merely a Perfect Illusion — because Ryan Murphy just revealed that GaGa was never really even in talks to appear in the third season of the FX crime drama!
Speaking to a group of reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour, the producer was asked if the pop star would be playing the fashion designer — to which he simply responded:
Reporters at the press event were taken back by Murphy’s response, given that an inside source pretty much confirmed the Bad Romance singer would be playing the lead role.
But according to the man behind the curtain, that was never really the case! When asked if GaGa was ever in talks to play Donatella, Murphy told Variety:
“Not really. She’s a friend. But she’s very busy this next year ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ she’s doing Super Bowl and then she’s doing ├óΓé¼╦£A Star Is Born’ and I believe that she’s going on tour. And when you’re going to do a show like Versace, it’s a five-month commitment, it’s a very big show, we’re shooting it all over the world. So I just don’t think with her schedule, I knew that it would never had worked. But I would love to work with her on something in the future.”
Hmm├óΓé¼┬ª we hate to say it, but “scheduling problems” are the go-to code for any and every other type of problem!
On the other hand, the songstress does have a pretty busy year lined up — so we guess we’ll have to see who the creator chooses instead…
