Fresh Off The Boat Author Eddie Huang BLASTS Steve Harvey For ‘Upsetting’ & ‘Hypocritical’ Jokes About Asian Men!

Steve Harvey desperately needs to add some fresh jokes to his repertoire.

Last week, the Family Feud host got heat for an insulting bit on his daytime talk show, in which he skewered Asian men, laughing at the idea of anyone finding them sexually desirable.

Now, Fresh Off the Boat author Eddie Huang is blasting the comedian for jabbing Asian men dating women of another race, calling the jokes in question “upsetting.”

On Friday’s The Steve Harvey show, the comedian cracked jokes about absurdly specific advice books like How to Date a White Woman: A Practical Guide for Asian Men — but instead of a clever punchline, Harvey just said:

“That’s one page. ‘Excuse me, do you like Asian men?’ ├óΓé¼╦£No.’ ├óΓé¼╦£Thank you.'”

In an essay for The New York Times, Huang revealed that Harvey’s shockingly tone deaf jokes have quite the terrifying history of “the expectations the dominant culture” places on Asian Americans.

The writer said that he became aware of these social constructs at a young age, explaining:

“I realized that people on the margins aren’t afforded the privilege of being complicated, whole, human beings in America; we have to create that existence ourselves, and it is that experience that I feel fundamentally binds us.”

Although Huang made peace with being different, the joke that women don’t want Asian men “still hurts” him to hear. He continued:

“Attractiveness is a very haphazard dish that can’t be boiled down to height or skin color, but Asian men are told that regardless of what the idyllic mirepoix is or isn’t, we just don’t have the ingredients.”

The 34-year-old showrunner added that no matter how successful he became, “there were times I thoroughly believed that no one wanted anything to do with me,” remembering:

“I told myself that it was all a lie, but the structural emasculation of Asian men in all forms of media became a self-fulfilling prophecy that produced an actual abhorrence to Asian men in the real world.”

Calling Harvey’s remarks “upsetting,” Huang noted that the comedian “speaks openly about issues facing the black community,” but is “willing to perpetuate the emasculation of Asian men regardless of how hypocritical it is.”

Well, he ain’t wrong…

We’re glad Huang is shedding a light on the horrifying history behind Harvey’s derogatory, lazy jokes. What do U think?
