Much of the world already knows the late Selena Quintanilla through her AH-Mazing music or the Jennifer Lopez biopic.
But now a whole new generation will learn how incredibly talented the singer, actress, and fashion designer was thanks to a new TV series in development!
On Monday, Disney Media Distribution Latin America, VTF Media, and Moconoco y Latin WE all announced they are producing the series.
The show will be based on Emmy award-winning journalist, Mar├â┬¡a Celeste Arrar├â┬ís‘ book El Secreto de Selena — which Maria spent years investigating the life and tragic death of the songstress.
Miz Arrarás spoke a bit about her book, upon which the project is based, saying:
“El Secreto de Selena is the revealing story behind her tragic death. It is a story very different from the official version that was told immediately after her murder. It turns out that in the months before her death, Selena was not as happy as many thought. She was living through a tumultuous moment in her life; she was surrounded by people that loved her but also wanted to manipulate her. She felt that she was being pulled in different directions and she was torn. Selena was about to take various decisions in her life that were going to change her personal and professional life forever.”
The journalist and author said she’s wanted to bring this story to life for many years, but that she hadn’t found the right team for it — until now:
“This real story of our beloved Selena has all of the ingredients of a telenovela: lies, love, betrayal, suspense and a lot more. It is a controversial story, but it is also a real story that is handled with the utmost respect for her memory. I have no doubt that just as the book became a bestseller, the production of this series will break audience records.”
Sounds like the perfect fit!
As we’re sure you know, Selena’s life was cut tragically short when she was shot and murdered by Yolanda Sald├â┬¡var on March 31, 1995.
We’re definitely excited to see how the new Selena project turns out as we hope it’s as great as J.Lo’s take on the songstress!
