Demarlon C. Thomas just saw his prison sentence commuted by President Barack Obama in November — only to be slain in an execution-style shooting just two months later.
In case you aren’t familiar, Thomas was a former Sunny Side Gang member who was sentenced to 19 years in prison back in 2008 for distributing cocaine.
Most recently, Demarlon was transitioning out of jail in a Saginaw, Michigan halfway house after his sentence was commuted before Barry left office.
On Monday night, two masked gunmen with assault-style weapons sought out and shot Thomas numerous times while holding 23 other tenants at gunpoint.
This was definitely a targeted attack. Michigan State Police Lt. David Kaiser told M Live:
“One person watched over a group of them while another subject located the victim and executed him. They were looking for this person.”
Another officer tells Michigan Radio:
“I think it was connected one way or another to the gang he was from or a rival gang.”
We do not have any information on what evidence would lead this officer to believe that, apart from circumstance.
No one else was reported injured, and the suspects remain at large.
