OMG — You Have To Meet The First Iraqi Man Detained By Donald Trump’s Shameful Muslim Ban

no title

Hopefully, stories like this will take things from bad to worse for Donald Trump.

Hours after Trump signed an executive order banning all immigrants and refugees from seven countries in the Middle East, the first man detained while trying to enter the United States has been identified.

Hameed Khalid Darweesh, who was coming to the U.S. with his family and was in the air on the way to the country when the executive order was signed, is now the first legal challenger to Trump’s action.

Here’s the thing about Darweesh: he’s not an everyday Iraqi. For years, he risked his life working alongside U.S. special forces inside Iraq to help American soldiers liberate the country, and he held a press conference on Saturday describing just how much he loves America.

After spending years working as an interpreter for American soldiers in Iraq — where his life was targeted twice by insurgents and rebels — he was granted a special immigrant visa to America on January 20.

This is the kind of person The Donald wants to keep out of the country.

Darweesh and another Iraqi colleague of his are bringing the first legal challenge, but it’s likely many more will follow to try to strike down this executive order.

In the meantime, though, Darweesh spent 17 hours in detention with authorities at New York City’s John F. Kennedy Airport before he was finally released to his family.

As you can see (below), flanked by New York Democratic Representatives Jerry Nadler and Nydia Velazquez as well as his lawyer, Mark Doss, Darweesh looked plainly relieved to be in the United States:

He’s here now, though — he says he’ll move to Charlotte to be with his wife and family and start their new lives in America — and at least one person has been released and is safe after Trump’s monumental fuck-up.

Let’s just hope the other eleven people get released in short order, too.

Shame on Trump.
