This is much worse than we thought.
Last night, it was reported that Jamie Lynn Spears‘ daughter Maddie was in critical condition after an ATV accident on a hunting trip.
The 25-year-old later released a statement saying the media reports surrounding the accident were “incorrect,” but did not clarify what actually happened to the 8-year-old.
Now, a newly released police report sheds more details on the harrowing incident, and it turns out Jamie Lynn saw the entire accident unfold right in front of her.
According to a statement by Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards, the crash did not take place on a hunting trip, but on the family property — right in front of Spears and her husband Jamie Watson.
Just before 3:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, Maddie was reportedly steering the ATV to avoid running over a nearby drainage ditch, and “overcorrected,” causing the ATV to flip into a pond and submerge under the water.
The report explained that Jamie Lynn and her husband dove in and tried to rescue the girl, but were unable to free her from her safety belt and the ATV netting.
The dramatic report continued:
“Within seconds the child’s mother, step-father and other family members reached the pond, dove in and attempted to rescue the child to no avail. The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV’s safety netting. Within two minutes, Acadian Ambulance Services arrived and assisted in freeing the child from the cold waters.”
So scary. As we reported, Maddie is currently in critical but stable condition at a New Orleans hospital.
The report added:
“This is an extremely tragic accident. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking you to keep this family in your constant prayers as they try to cope with this horrible incident. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time of need.”
We can’t imagine what Jamie Lynn and the rest of the family is going through right now.
Our hearts go out to Maddie with hope that she recovers from this harrowing incident.
