Donald Trump Officially Withdraws Federal Protection For Transgender Students

What a sad day for America…

As we reported, on Tuesday, Press Secretary Sean Spicer reiterated Donald Trump‘s belief that treating a transgender student by his or her identified gender is a state issue and NOT a federal one.

Fast forward to Wednesday night, the businessman’s plan is officially in writing.

According to a two-page “Dear Colleague” letter sent to public schools, the current administration is removing the plan set by Barack Obama as it does not “contain extensive legal analysis or explain how the position is consistent with the express language of Title IX, nor did they undergo any formal public process.”

Last May, under Obama, the departments of Education and Justice issued a joint statement saying:

“A school may not require transgender students to use facilities inconsistent with their gender identity.”

While Trump’s order does not offer new guidance, it negates the one set by Barack. The recently released letter did add that the “withdrawal of [Obama’s] guidance documents does not leave students without protections from discrimination, bullying, or harassment.”

According to a statement from the White House:

“As President Trump has clearly stated, he believes policy regarding transgender bathrooms should be decided at the state level… The joint decision made today by the Department of Justice and the Department of Education returning power to the states paves the way for an open and inclusive process to take place at the local level with input from parents, students, teachers and administrators.”

According to a source, controversial Education Secretary Betsy DeVos did NOT agree with these new provisions.

Another day, another disappointment from our government…
