Tom Perez Elected Chair Of The Democratic National Committee — First Latino To Serve As Chairman

no title

Good or bad, this will prove to be a big deal for the Democrats moving forward as they fight Donald Trump‘s agenda!

On Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, Tom Perez — a former Labor Secretary under Barack Obama — was elected to serve as the chairperson of the Democratic National Committee.

Narrowly defeating Rep. Keith Ellison in a tough vote at the DNC’s party meeting, Perez is now the first Latino chairperson of the committee!

Speaking to the group in a hoarse voice after the final vote — which Perez won by a tally of 235 to 200 over Ellison — Perez said:

“With hard work and a hell of a lot of organizing, we will turn this party around.”

Ain’t that the truth.

Ellison was very popular with many Bernie Sanders supporters, and still takes a lot of support from younger, more left-leaning Democrats — and because of that, it’s been somewhat tough for the party to unite behind an agenda in the age of Trump.

But now, well, the Democrats have their man.

(By the way, in Perez’s first act as DNC chair, he named Ellison his deputy chairperson — so there’s the first hint of both wings of the Democratic Party actually starting to work together.)

Can the Democrats take back seats in 2018 — and even take the White House from Trump in 2020 — with Perez at the helm??
