Remember when George W. Bush was one of the least-liked Presidents??
Ah, simpler times.
In a new interview with Today‘s Matt Lauer, POTUS 43 took POTUS 45 Donald Trump to task regarding Drumpf’s un-American attack on the media, his controversial immigration ban, and the Russian hacking debacle.
Let’s start with the media.
The 70-year-old, who undoubtedly got some of the most criticized coverage in our nation’s history, called out Trump’s attack on certain outlets — arguing that saying a free press is “indispensable to democracy”:
“We need an independent media to hold people like me to account … Power can be very addictive and it can be corrosive, and it’s important for the media to call to account people who abuse their power.”
The politician added that he spent a lot of time during his presidency trying to convince leaders of other governments, namely Vladimir Putin, to embrace an independent press, but:
“It’s kind of hard to tell others to have an independent free press when we’re not willing to have one ourselves.”
Speaking of Russia, the Republican had this to say about the hacking scandal surrounding the election:
“I think we all need answers. I’m not sure the right avenue to take. I am sure, though, that that question needs to be answered.”
And as far as the immigration ban that shook our country right when Trump and his minions came into office, Bush had this to say:
“I understood right off the bat … that [the executive order] was an ideological conflict … am for an immigration policy that is welcoming and upholds the law.”
When Dubya is asking for answers, we know we’re really in trouble!
