Accounting Firm Responsible For Oscars Envelopes Apologizes For Best Picture Snafu! But Does Their Explanation Make Sense??

oscars best picture mixup official statement

Talk about an epic face palm moment!

As we previously reported, there was quite the fiasco at the Oscars when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced La La Land as the Best Picture winner, when really, Moonlight was the victor in that specific category. Whomp, whomp!

Obviously, everyone involved with the highly publicized awards show is eager to figure out what the hell happened. Which explains why PricewaterhouseCoopers, the accounting firm which handles the votes and envelopes for the Oscars, has since issued an investigation into the MAJOR on stage blunder.

In a recent statement, PWC noted:

“We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation.”

Awkward. Not to mention, Mr. Beatty confirmed the firm’s account of what went down as he told reporters backstage:

“I don’t know anything ├óΓé¼┬ª I don’t think anyone knows. I’ve asked and I haven’t got an answer…I read the card that was in the envelope… I read it but I didn’t say La La Land. I thought, ‘This is very strange because it says Best Actress on the card.’ And I felt that maybe there was some sort of misprint….As planned, I gave it to Faye. And that’s all I want to say on the subject.”

Huh. The legendary actor also expressed a similar sentiment during the actual show when he told the audience:

“I want to tell you what happened. I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, La La Land. That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”

But wait, this explanation doesn’t make sense, since Miz Stone claims she had her Best Actress card with her “the whole time” following her big win. SO WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED?? *cue the conspiracy theories*

Honestly, we’re just so confused by this whole envelopegate situation.

Nonetheless, we couldn’t be happier for everyone involved in Moonlight and want to congratulate them again on their big win. Shit happens, right guys?
