He had one job… we think.
Well, it looks like the blame is now being pointed at Brian Cullinan (pictured above, right), none other than an accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The firm that handles the votes and envelopes for the Academy Awards already issued a statement on the mishap, saying they would be launching an investigation into the live blunder.
And apparently, the head they’re offering up is Cullinan, a veteran who has been with the firm for 30 years.
According to reports, Brian was supposed to discard the duplicate Best Actress envelope and hand Beatty Best Picture, but got a bit distracted from all the glitz and glamor backstage.
Brian’s Twitter page shows further evidence that he was in La La Land when he was supposed to be prepping for the final category.
The tweets have since been deleted, but a picture of Emma Stone and her Oscar was screenshotted from his page:
If this snap was posted right after her win, that’s the exact time Brian was supposed to get ready for the Best Picture category. Wow, talk about royally fucking up!
PwC is reportedly issuing an apology, and it’s unknown whether or not the accountant will be disciplined.
Though this still doesn’t explain who handed off the Best Actress envelope to Beatty, or why no one else caught it before it was too late…
