Flip Or Flop‘s Tarek El Moussa Reveals He Battled Testicular Cancer At The Same Time He Was Diagnosed With Thyroid Cancer

Tarek & Christina El Moussa

If you watch Flip Or Flop, you’re probably very familiar with Tarek El Moussa‘s battle with thyroid cancer — something he was very open about back in 2013.

In a new interview with People, the TV personality revealed for the first time ever that two months after learning about his thyroid, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer.

As to why he kept one battle private while taking the other public, the father-of-two explained:

“Testicular cancer is more of a private thing.”

After the thyroid diagnosis and discovering an irregular testicular exam from two years earlier, Tarek decided to get further testing:

“I was at one building doing my thyroid stuff and mentioned I was going across the street to get an ultrasound done. I’ll never forget the doctor joking, ├óΓé¼╦£I hope you don’t have cancer!’ I get over to the ultrasound and [the technician and I] are talking and having fun and all of a sudden he got really quiet. I said, ├óΓé¼╦£What’s up?’ I could tell he was nervous and he was like ├óΓé¼╦£Oh, I’m not a doctor.” I said, ├óΓé¼╦£What do you mean?’ And he said, ├óΓé¼╦£Are you in pain? I think you’re in pain and should go to the emergency room.’ Right then, I knew something was wrong. A half hour later they tell me I have cancer and try to sign me up for surgery. That was devastating.”

As a result, the newly-single celeb scheduled his surgeries and radioactive iodine therapy which ultimately helped him beat the cancers.

Christina El Moussa‘s former love said that he’s finally chosen to reveal his bout with testicular cancer because of his stepfather’s same battle:

“I talked to [my stepfather] and I said, ├óΓé¼╦£Listen, you were there for me when I went through it and now I’m here for you while you go through it.’ His is worse through because he waited longer. He knew there was something wrong when he told my mom years ago, but he never went to the doctor. His cancer has spread to his lymph nodes and now he has to do chemotherapy. A lot of people said they got tested because I shared my [thyroid cancer] story. I thought this was the time to come forward because it could save some lives.”

That is very true!

You can watch Tarek further talk about struggling with his health and his divorce in his new interview with The Doctors (below)!

So happy to hear he’s now cancer free!
