Our hearts are breaking.
Amy Krouse Rosenthal, the author who wrote You May Want To Marry My Husband, a touching dating profile of sorts for her husband Jason Rosenthal, passed away Monday morning at the age of 51 from ovarian cancer.
The announcement was made by her longtime friend and agent Amy Rennert to People.
Amy was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. The beautiful essay she wrote of her and her husband’s fairy tale-esque love story for the New York Times‘ Modern Love column was published only ten days ago on March 3.
The piece sings Jason’s praises, relating all the characteristics that basically make him Prince Charming.
“Here is the kind of man Jason is: He showed up at our first pregnancy ultrasound with flowers. This is a man who, because he is always up early, surprises me every Sunday morning by making some kind of oddball smiley face out of items near the coffeepot: a spoon, a mug, a banana.”
The most heartrending part is at the end, however, when Amy gives her blessing for Jason to move on and find love with someone else.
What a remarkable woman.
For his part, Jason released the following statement about his wife and the piece written in his honor:
“I didn’t know exactly what she was composing. But I was with her as she labored through this process and I can tell you that writing the story was no easy task. When I read her words for the first time, I was shocked at the beauty, slightly surprised at the incredible prose given her condition and, of course, emotionally ripped apart. I don’t have the same aptitude for the written word, but if I did, I can assure you that my tale would be about the most epic love story├óΓé¼┬ª ours.”
May he find strength in the immense love he shared with his wife for so many years. Our deepest condolences go out to Amy’s family and loved ones during this very difficult time.
And we highly encourage you to read her lovely essay.
