As you know, ABC promised us the ~most dramatic~ episode of After The Final Rose special yet — and Nick Viall certainly delivered!
During last night’s finale of The Bachelor, the 36-year-old proposed to *SPOILERS* Vanessa Grimaldi… but it was during the ATFR special where things REALLY got dramatic. Not only did Nick and Vanessa make their first public appearance as a couple, but the Wisconsin-born hunk had to face his slighted ex, Raven Gates. AWKWARD!
Oh, also there was this whole weird bit where Nick’s second runner-up/future Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay met some of the suitors who will be vying for her heart. This moment was a first in Bachelor/ette history — and we think it could also be a last. LOLz!
But let’s get into all the juicy drama, so be sure to ch-ch-check out our recap of the After The Final Rose special (below)!
No one enjoys being slighted, so it broke our hearts when we watched Mr. Viall send home the Arkansas sweetheart. While we DESPERATELY wanted the Southern belle to rip the reality TV vet a new one, Miz Gates maintained her composure and congratulated Nick and Vanessa on their engagement. She’s just all class!
Thankfully, we haven’t seen the last of Raven as she revealed during ATFR that she’ll be joining Chris Harrison in Mexico for Bachelor In Paradise! Bless.
The Awkward Interview Watched ‘Round The World
It seems like even Nick and Vanessa have doubts about whether or not their engagement is going to last. While chatting with Harrison, the love birds revealed that in their relationship “some days are tougher than others.” Oof.
Vanessa explained to Chris:
“I treated this relationship as if it was a real relationship in a very unrealistic world. I had to hold back sometimes and understand Nick’s position. There were moments where I had to understand Nick, the Bachelor ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ and Nick, the guy that I was dating, and the individual relationship that I had going with him. So it was hard sometimes to separate the two… I feel like I’m sometimes not the easiest person to be with. I speak my mind. ├óΓé¼┬ª Some days have been easier than others, but at the end of the day we love each other and even when things get hard we are willing to make it work. We’re not just going to call it quits because things get difficult.”
Bravo! On their mutual “fears” about their engagement potentially not working out, Viall added:
“I’m a realist. I can fall hard ├óΓé¼┬ª but I’ve always been a realist and even as the Bachelor I’m a realist. There have been those moments ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ we’ve had our struggles but we are good communicators and we talk. We do try to be that team. We are realistic, but it’s something we are looking forward to tackling together.”
However, the pair will have plenty of time to work on their relationship as Grimaldi is moving to the U.S. to be with her man. Still, the future Mr. and Mrs. Viall know how anxious fans are for their romance to last. The Bachelorette alum noted:
“I think [the fans are] always great and loyal and they want to see the couples work out, and we want that too. We know we have a long way to go. We still are getting to know each other. That’s the reality.”
We have a feeling these two won’t make it to the end of 2017. ~Sorry, not sorry.~
IRL Sneak Peek Of Rachel’s Season Of The Bachelorette
When we were told that we were going to get some drama that’s never happened before in Bachelor history, we thought maybe Nick, Vanessa, and Raven would walk away as a thruple OR that one of the contestants was pregnant with Nick’s baby. Sadly, neither of those things happened — INSTEAD we awkwardly met a handful of contestants who will appear on Rachel’s season of The Bachelorette.
Let’s just say, it was bizarre. Not only did we meet one white contestant who professed he was “ready to go black and never go back,” but we were also introduced to another suitor who was already ready to propose to Miz Lindsay. We’re SO about Rachel’s upcoming season!
