Kesha Keeps Her Life Healthy & Positive — Here’s What She’s Got To Say About Online Comments, Eating Disorders, & Turning 30

Kesha talks cyberbullying and eating disorders.

Kesha seems to be in a very good place right now!

At a cyberbullying panel hosted by Refinery29 at South by Southwest on Tuesday, she spoke out about negative online spaces, eating disorders, and her eventful 30th birthday.

By all accounts she seems to have really hit her stride, and one of the ways in which she’s done that is by avoiding social media.

She said:

“[T]he internet is not a healthy place for me. I limit myself on reading comments. There may have been so many positive ones but I always gravitate towards reading the negative ones. I realized I was making trolls and bullies the truth, making them my higher power. I have become a woman in a lot of ways, reclaiming my personal space, my body, my confidence. I am happiest when I am present in my real life. Not when in my online life.”

The 30-year-old, who recently issued a PSA about eating disorders, also opened up about the ongoing process of recovery:

“People don’t want to talk about eating disorders ├óΓé¼┬ª and I just want people to know that they are not alone. It is not your fault and it is not a weakness. It is a disease. I used to be embarrassed to talk about it, but now I want to talk about it. It can kill you, I almost died.”

Her new, healthier outlook will also be reflected in her music, as she said:

“I ditched the idea of what my image should or should not be at this point. I have let go of trying to control things. And the new music is just me speaking honestly about my life for the first time ever without anyone dictating anything. Me speaking truthfully from my guts.”

Finally, the former wild child related how she spent her 30th birthday on March 1, and how she’s looking forward to her 30s, saying:

“I was trying to figure out where to go [for my birthday], and I wanted to be in the dirt. I set up a camp in the middle of the Maasai Mara and had hippos bumping up against the tent in the middle of the night. The day I turned 30 I was on safari and I saw two lions having sex and I thought, ├óΓé¼╦£I think my 30s are going to be dope.'”

LOLz! Sounds like they definitely will with that awesome attitude!

Wishing her the best, as always!
