Toby Willis has a long legal battle ahead of him.
On Monday, The Willis Family star was arraigned on four counts of child rape in Ashland City, TN — not long after a grand jury heard his case. It’s said the scandalized TLC celebrity pleaded not guilty to all of the charges and that the start of his trial has been schedule for July 18.
Initially, Willis was slated to appear in court on May 31 following the completion of some psychological tests requested by his attorney. However, the state pushed Toby’s court appearance up as they decided to present their cause to the March grand jury. Man, oh man.
In case you forgot, the America’s Got Talent alum was arrested back in September after he fled his home in an attempt to avoid the police. He was eventually booked in Greenville, Kentucky and charged with one count of rape of a child. Allegedly, the father-of-12 had a sexual encounter with an underage girl in Nashville about 12 years ago. Ugh.
Toby is scheduled to make is official plea on July 11, mere days before the start of his trial. It’ll be inneresting to see if Willis still has Michael Shipman as his attorney, as the legal expert was MIA from Monday’s arraignment. We wonder if the attorney’s absence has something to do with the fact that he told the court in November that he had “come to question (his client’s) competence.” Huh.
