A lame #NerdProm for an even lamer POTUS!
And because he has the same mentality as a self-absorbed teenage girl, the President bailed on the annual celebration himself before other outlets had the chance to skip out.
Now, this year’s event is shaping up to be the least White House-y of any WHCD in history, as the White House staff will also be skipping the dinner to be in “solidarity” with the big man in charge.
The White House Correspondents’ Association president Jeff Mason made the announcement on Tuesday, writing in a letter to members:
“The White House informed the White House Correspondents’ Association this evening that White House staff will not be attending this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner out of ‘solidarity’ with President Trump, who has previously announced that he would skip the event.”
At least now they don’t have to vote for him to be #NerdProm King! (Which isn’t normally a thing, but we’re talking about Trump here.)
The statement continued:
“The WHCA board regrets this decision very much. We have worked hard to build a constructive relationship with the Trump White House and believe strongly that this goal is possible even with the natural tension between the press and administrations that is a hallmark of a healthy republic.”
Well, maybe we’ll get some solidarity between the White House and the press next year?
The yearly tradition began in 1920, and is typically attended by A-list celebs and reporters who cover the White House and the president.
But with tensions between Trump’s administration and the media at an all time high, perhaps journalists will enjoy the celebration without the White House harshing everyone’s vibe.
Still, we have a feeling someone from Trump’s camp will roll up to represent. We mean, how could Kellyanne Conway NOT show up for the glamorous night, right??
