So, it sounds like the authorities are still suspicious of Stephen Belafonte after all.
As you may recall from last week, ATF searched Mel B‘s estranged ex’s home for illegal firearms after a troubling comment from his brother. Stephen isn’t allowed to be in possession of guns or ammunition after his domestic violence conviction back in 2003.
Although it was initially reported police didn’t find anything, TMZ now reports that the U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles is reviewing the case for possible federal prosecution as there was some evidence found — including an empty shell casing and a bullet out of the casing on the property (neither of which is considered “ammunition”).
Due to the sensitive nature of his allegedly-violent relationship with the former Spice Girl, we’re hearing the findings hold circumstantial value.
As ATF continues to investigate, Mel and Stephen’s brother may have to testify whether or not they’ve seen Stephen in possession of a weapon.
He could potentially face up to 10 years behind bars if convicted illegal possession of a firearm.
