The oldest person in the world — who was also the last person alive that had been born in the 19th century — has died in Italy.
Emma Morano was born way back on November 29, 1899, and lived to the ripe of age of 117 years old before she died earlier today at her home in the small Italian town of Verbania.
Morano, who was the oldest of eight siblings and (obviously) out-lived them all, was the final person on Earth alive who had been born in the 1800s. Crazy!!
There’s no doubt she lived a very, very full life. Here she is at a celebration for her 117th birthday a few months ago (below):
The next oldest recorded living person, who now takes over the title as the oldest person in the world, is Violet Brown, a Jamaican woman.
She’s also 117 years old — although she was born in 1900.
R.I.P., Ms. Morano.
