It’s tough to forget one of the biggest, saddest viral stories we covered last year: the horrifying, grisly murder of 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte.
As you’ll remember from our reporting, the young Google employee from NYC was killed while out on a jog in rural Massachusetts, where she had been visiting family.
Now, on Saturday morning, we can report that an arrest has been made in the case.
According to police in Princeton, Massachusetts, who have been busy for the last eight months following up on the horrifying August 7 murder, the arrested suspect has been identified as Angel Ortiz, a 31-year-old man from the area.
The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office held a press conference on Saturday to discuss the case, and they identified Ortiz as a man they arrested earlier this morning.
Back in February, prosecutors said that they believed their suspect to be a Hispanic or Latino male — and now they believe that after more than 1,300 tips in the case, they have their man.
We still can’t imagine the horror and terror of those final moments.
