As you surely know, a viral video began circulating on Friday which featured a mother hysterically crying while holding her baby after a flight attendant “violently” grabbed her stroller from her as she attempted to place the object in the overhead bin — allegedly hitting the mother and narrowly missing the baby. Other passengers on the flight were distraught by the situation, as one man even stood up to defend the sobbing mother and almost ended up in a brawl with the allegedly aggressive flight attendant.
The crying woman’s defender has since been identified as Tony Fierro, as he has spoken out about the incident and revealed why he felt the need to speak up. While talking with WFAA-TV, Mr. Fierro explained:
“A baby almost got hurt. That’s what just fired me up, so that was it. I don’t want to make a big deal about it.”
Very fair. Another passenger, named Surain Adyanthaya, who shared the the now viral footage on Facebook has also added commentary to the controversial situation. On what he witnessed go down, Mr. Adyanthaya noted:
“He [the flight attendant] was very upset. He grabbed it and just pulled it off, sort of violently yanked it, and then stormed off the plane with it.”
Geez. We mean, we all have bad work days, but there’s no need to be so aggressive with a woman holding a little one. Nonetheless, it seems as though AA is taking this situation seriously as they’ve launched an investigation into the incident and made sure to upgrade the crying woman and her family to first class for the remainder of their international trip.
In a statement released on Saturday, the airline relayed:
“The actions of our team member captured here do not appear to reflect patience or empathy, two values necessary for customer care. In short, we are disappointed by these actions. The American team member has been removed from duty while we immediately investigate this incident.”
For American Airlines’ sake, we hope this controversy fizzles out sooner than later!
