Covering their asses.
It appears as though the Chicago aviation officers responsible for dragging Dr. David Dao off a United Airlines flight are claiming the victim caused his own injuries. Excuse us??
Incident reports from the now viral, forcible removal paint Dao as the culprit as the officers wrote that the doctor was “aggressive” and “flailing his arms” during the situation. Obviously, this directly contradicts the footage and accounts given by David’s fellow passengers. In fact, in the video footage, you can actually see the authorities wrenching Dao out of his seat and pulling him along the aisle shortly after the passenger hit his head on an armrest.
Not one, but TWO aviation officers have tried to claim that it was Dao who caused his extensive injuries — which include a broken nose, a serious concussion, and the loss of his two front teeth. Nonetheless, officer James Long defended in his report:
“…the subject started swinging his arms up and down with a closed fist. Ofc. Long was able to grab the subject and pull him away from the window seat towards the aisle. But suddenly the subject started flailing and fighting.”
We don’t remember seeing THAT in the footage.
Long also added that David knocked away the officer’s arm “which caused the subject to fall, hit, and injured his mouth on the armrest on the other side of the aisle”. SRSLY??
Dao’s lawyer, Thomas Demetrio, has since deemed these two reports as “utter nonsense.” You can say that again!
