No jokes here.
On Monday evening, Jimmy Kimmel emotionally revealed that his son with wife Molly McNearney had to have open heart surgery at only three days old. Oh no!
According to the late night host, Miz McNearney gave birth to a baby boy, named William “Billy” Kimmel, on April 21. However, the twosome’s joy was short lived as hours after Billy’s birth, an attentive nurse noticed the newborn had a heart murmur and was turning purple. Apparently, the youngest Kimmel has congenital heart disease which means there’s a “hole in the wall of the left and right side of his heart.”
What a scary situation for any parent. Thankfully, Billy successfully underwent open heart surgery at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and was able to go home six days after being born. Nonetheless, the youngster will have to undergo another operation in three to six months. Although Jimmy is clearly shaken up by his son’s health scare, he’s still able to make jokes as he quipped:
“Poor kid, not only did he get a bad heart, he got my face.”
Awwwww. Be sure to watch Kimmel’s tearful address for yourself (below).
Our thoughts are with Kimmel’s loved ones during this tough time. Stay strong, Billy!
