We’re happy to hear Daymond John is on the other side of this scare!
In an interview with Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts on Wednesday morning, the Shark Tank star revealed he privately battled stage two thyroid cancer — and that early detection was key in his treatment.
The father of three beautiful daughters said of his diagnosis:
“I had a very extensive physical and they discovered that there was a nodule on my thyroid and said, you can take it out or you can’t. Maybe — could be something. They remove it and it was stage 2 cancer on my thyroid.”
The 48-year-old added:
“I didn’t skip a beat. I got some early detection and I understood that I had a challenge and if I attack it now, then I wouldn’t let it attack me. I had that removed. I didn’t miss anything, I was out partying and dancing two days later — not that I should of.”
Now, he’s motivated to share his story in an effort to raise awareness about routine health exams:
“But I wanted to share this information with people, because what would I have went through if I decided to just stick my head in the sand and go, ├óΓé¼╦£You know what, I’m not going to check into stuff. If it happens it happens to everybody else.’ The one thing the medical community can agree on is that early detection really increases your chance of having a success. Not a guarantee but it increases your chances.”
