Donald Trump Claims He Was Going To Fire ‘Showboat’ James Comey ‘Regardless Of Recommendations’

Well this didn’t take long.

As Donald Trump‘s lackeys continue to fail at coming up with a solid defense as to why the President fired (now former) FBI director James Comey, we knew it wouldn’t be long before the Trumpster spoke out on the issue controversy again. But, in typical Trump fashion, the 70-year-old uttered a bunch of nonsense.

Looks like the West Wing is just following the businessman’s lead. LOLz!

Anywho, the Commander-In-Chief sat down with NBC’s Lester Holt on Thursday and explained:

“I was going to fire Comey. My decision. There’s no good time to do it. ├óΓé¼┬ª I was going to fire regardless of recommendations. [Rosenstein] made a recommendation. He’s highly respected. Very good guy. Very smart guy. The Democrats like him. The Republicans like him. He made a recommendation. But regardless of recommendation I was going to fire Comey.”

Sure, there’s no “good time” to fire someone… but maybe wait until they’re back in Washington D.C. and not away at an FBI recruitment event? Oh, and let’s talk about how sketchy it was that Donnie fired Comey a week after the legal expert confirmed there is an active investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia.

Regardless, it sounds like President simply couldn’t stand the 56-year-old’s personality. The Celebrity Apprentice star added:

“He’s a showboat. He’s a grandstander. You know that. I know that. Everybody knows that. You take a look at the FBI a year ago, less than a year ago, it was in virtual turmoil. It hasn’t recovered from that.”

Sure. Okay, buddy.

Of course, Holt couldn’t let Trump walk away from the interview before asking him about the supposed “three occasions” where the businessman inquired about a possible probe into his campaign. According to the Prez, he and Comey spoke about the alleged investigation once over dinner and twice by phone. He noted:

“I actually asked him if I was under investigation. I said, ‘If it’s possible would you let me know, am I under investigation?’ He said, ‘You are not under investigation’.”

Although we should probably mention, it’s highly unlikely that the FBI director would give a straight answer to someone who is the focus of scandalous inquiry. On the sit down dinner he had with James, Ivanka Trump‘s father dished:

“We had a very nice dinner at the White House very early on. A dinner was arranged. He wanted to stay on as the FBI head. And I said, ‘I’ll consider. We’ll see what happens… I know I’m not under investigation.”

And despite vehemently telling Holt that there has been no collusion between his aides and the Russians, he wants Comey’s successor to continue on with the investigation. He relayed:

“I want to find out if there was a problem in the election having to do with Russia. If Russia did anything, I want to know that…Also, the Russians did not affect the vote.”

But how do you know that if you don’t know anything yet?? Be sure to ch-ch-check out the HIGHlight from Donald’s sit down with Lester (below) and don’t forget to tune into NBC Nightly News tonight to catch the full interview.
