As the outpouring of love comes out for Chris Cornell, new details are being revealed about the 52-year-old’s death.
We previously reported the Soundgarden frontman was found dead in his Detroit hotel room after a gig on Wednesday night. Now, it’s being said his death is being looked at as an apparent suicide.
Detroit’s WXYZ reports police saying Chris’ wife called up a family friend to check up on the singer. After forcing his way into the hotel room, he found the dad of three on the floor of the bathroom. Chris was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to TMZ, the grunge rock icon was found with a band around his neck, and there was no blood at the scene, which has police suspecting his death was a suicide.
The Detroit Police Department’s media relations director, Michael Woody, said in a statement:
“When the units arrived they were met by a gentleman who indicated that Chris Cornell had been found in his room. When officers went to the room they found Chris Cornell laying in his bathroom, unresponsive and he had passed away. We are investigating it as a possible suicide but we need to wait on the medical examiner to determine the cause and manner of death.”
We’ll continue to update you with any new details.
And of course, our thoughts are with Chris’ family and friends during this difficult time.
