Tom Cruise can’t keep a secret… at least when it comes to his upcoming movie projects.
The Mummy star confirmed on Tuesday that the long-awaited sequel to Top Gun is “definitely happening” — and filming will begin sometime next year!
The action star couldn’t stop grinning when the anchors of Australian morning show Sunrise asked if his classic film would be getting a sequel, to which he responded:
“It’s true. I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. I know, it’s happening. It’s definitely happening.”
The anchors were a bit stunned they got such an announcement out of the 54-year-old so easily, but he explained:
“You’re the first people I’ve said it to. I’m here, you asked me and so I’m telling you.”
What an open book! (On approved topics of conversation, of course.)
The 1986 action film saw Cruise playing fighter pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, who had the need for speed and could play quite the dazzling game of volleyball.
We hope some of the supporting cast — like Kelly McGillis, Meg Ryan, and Val Kilmer — are set to jet back for the sequel, too!
