Double Fault! Tennis Legend Releases Volley Of Outrageous Homophobic Comments!

In case you hadn’t heard, last week tennis great Margaret Court made it clear she had no love for the LGBT community by decreeing she would stop using Qantas Airlines because of their support of same sex marriage.

Then just this Wednesday, the 74-year-old double faulted by telling Vision Christian Radio there was a massive conspiracy to warp the minds of young people into accepting the ungodly behavior:

“That’s what Hitler did. That’s what communism did — get in the minds of the children. There’s a whole plot in our nation and in the nations of the world to get in the minds of the children.”

She also said she believed that in the U.S., “92 per cent were abused sexually or emotionally when they were young even to be this way.”

Holy shit.

Court also had some words about the trans community, saying she believed it was all just children being confused by adults. She added that her mother thought she should have been a boy because she was such a tomboy, but she knew that was wrong even then:

“‘If you feel like being a girl, you can dress like a girl.’ What confusion to a child. I get confused talking about it. You can think, ‘I’m a boy’, and it affects your emotions and feelings and everything else. That’s all the devil.”

As far as her own field, Court said the tennis world was “full of lesbians” these days, and that was a result of the elder ones bringing the younger players “to parties and things,” implying they were all converted.

Not surprisingly, many took offense at Court’s comments, not the least of whom is fellow tennis legend Martina Navratilova.

The record holder for Grand Slam titles, who married her longtime girlfriend in 2014, wrote an open letter requesting that the Margaret Court Arena in Australia be renamed after someone with less hateful, damaging views (which apparently include some comments back in the day in support of South African apartheid).

She wrote:

“It is now clear exactly who Court is: an amazing tennis player, and a racist and a homophobe. Her vitriol is not just an opinion. She is actively trying to keep LGBT people from getting equal rights (note to Court: we are human beings, too). She is demonising trans kids and trans adults everywhere.

And now, linking LGBT to Nazis, communists, the devil? This is not OK. This is in fact sick and it is dangerous. Kids will suffer more because of this continuous bashing and stigmatising of our LGBT community.

How much blood will be on Margaret’s hands because kids will continue to get beaten for being different? This is not OK. Too many will die by suicide because of this kind of intolerance, this kind of bashing and yes, this kind of bullying. This is not OK.”

Preach, gurl!

Who does Martina think the arena should be named after?

“I think the Evonne Goolagong Arena has a great ring to it. Now there is a person we can all celebrate. On every level.”

You can read Martina’s full letter HERE. It remains to be seen whether Melbourne Park will follow her advice.

We guess the ball’s in their court.
