John Oliver has to give credit where credit is due.
When discussing Donald Trump‘s announcement to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, the Last Week Tonight host had no choice but to praise the President — for being so “flamboyantly deceptive” about it!
Oliver fact-checked Trump’s remarks on Sunday’s show, first going over the moment in his speech where POTUS claimed the world celebrated the signing of the global initiative because it put American at an “economic disadvantage” — to which he said:
“What are you talking about? They were happy because they secured a landmark victory for the future of the planet, you fucking egomaniac.”
The HBO host also explained that Trump’s pulling out of the agreement ultimately hurts the population he pretends to care about the most: U.S. workers.
Because while the States are clinging to the carbon-emissions-producing industries of the past, countries staying in the agreement will reap its benefits, and as Oliver put it, will be on “the forefront of a whole new industry creating countless jobs.”
Like China, which not only cancelled plans to build more than 100 coal-fired power plants, but also plans to spend $361 BILLION dollars on renewable energy — which will reportedly create 13 million new jobs — while American coal miners continue to get the black lung. Sad!
