Bill Maher and Milo Yiannopoulos on the same stage again?
That’s either ratings gold or a shitstorm waiting to happen. Actually, maybe both…
We’re sure the Real Time host is hoping more for the former as he told Esquire he wanted to invite the alt-right sympathizer back on:
“I actually want to have him back. I don’t think he would be that hard to bring around to a much more reasonable position.”
Interesting position considering after the last time he was on, Maher wanted the credit for Milo losing all his positions (even though it was Larry Wilmore and not Maher himself who hilariously told him off).
BTW, if you’re wondering whether this is just because Bill wants a decoy to draw the Internet’s ire, it’s a definite no. This interview was given before the controversy over Maher’s use of a racial epithet Friday night.
No, he actually believes Milo’s
provocateur trolling ways can be redirected. Maybe so. But we think it’ll take a LONG time before he grows tired of taking positions just to piss people off — and longer still before anyone forgives him for such a mercenary attitude.
The begrudging respect apparently goes both ways, as Esquire reached out to Yiannopoulos as well, who said of Maher:
“Bill and I agree on the two major issues of the day: free speech and Islam. He is one of the few people, left or right, not afraid to express themselves on difficult subjects.”
Maher is indeed a frequent critic of Islam, though to be fair he hates every religion, even making a documentary about how he thinks they’re all harmful to humanity.
We’d be remiss not to mention the profile also has similar quotes praising Maher’s no-bullshit stance from Chelsea Handler and ultra-liberal Rob Reiner.
What do YOU think of Maher having Milo back to Real Time?
