What a tragedy.
Debra Bedard, 58, and her longtime partner Richard Clarke, 57, were cruising around their private olive orchard outside of Sacramento when the unthinkable happened… a left turn threw Bedard from the golf cart, causing her to land onto the two shattered wine glasses she was holding in her hands at the time of the accident.
The mother lost her life as a result of the sustained injuries.
Her boyfriend of 17 years was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI — but authorities seem to maintain that Clarke “didn’t really cause the (incident),” and that it was instead a freak accident. The investigation is ongoing.
Debra’s son, Steve, said the couple were each other’s “everything,” adding they would often roam around the property together:
“They would often ride through the orchard just to check things out and enjoy the serenity of the property. Having been on the property many times, I completely understand how this happened. It was not an irresponsible act but just the worst kind of tragedy.”
He went on to defend Clarke’s character:
“I would never want anyone to think of Richard as an irresponsible man. He is one of the most together, responsible men with the strongest of character.”
Debra’s daughter, Melissa, shared:
So devastating! Our thoughts are with Debra’s loved ones during this difficult time.
