Welp, this is gross.
Greg Gianforte, the Montana congressman who made national headlines when he assaulted a reporter for asking a question he didn’t like, has finally faced the music.
Unfortunately, that music is apparently Taylor Swift‘s Shake It Off as the Republican is barely going to feel the repercussions of his actions.
First, he won the damn election despite the audio recording of his crime.
Now, after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault, he’s been given — you know what, “slap on the wrist” is a little too harsh a phrase. Let’s say he was gently stroked on the wrist.
A judge sentenced Gianforte to 40 hours of community service, 20 hours of anger management, and a fine of a measly $385. That’s less than victim Ben Jacobs is going to have to pay for new glasses!
Gianforte was also given a deferred sentence of 180 days. That means the only thing the former software exec (yes, really) will actually serve is two years in the Big House… of Representatives. Ick.
