Like most of the President’s children, Ivanka Trump‘s natural response to an oncoming hug is a stiff, bewildered recoil.
Well, that conditioning made for one awkward photo op when Sen. Marco Rubio tried to wrap his arms around the First Daughter at the Capitol on Tuesday.
The snap was taken as Ivanka had just entered the building for a meeting with legislators about her new child tax credit proposal, which the Florida Republican was spearheading.
Apparently, Rubio was really feeling the team spirit — and was captured by reporter Erica Werner leaning in to hug Vank, who stood with limp arms at her side.
The two addressed the hug fail on Twitter after the meeting, with Ivanka (jokingly?) dubbing the reports as “fake news” while Rubio claimed he was about to launch an investigation:

Ivanka’s response? An unsurprising “no comment”:
Anonymous sources say @marcorubio planned the alleged failed hug. I have no comment (but I would have hugged him anyway! 🤗) https://t.co/TChrqWsL4D

What a hoot!
But by the time the pair poked fun at themselves, it was too late; for the photo had since made its rounds on the internet and was in stage 5 of Twitter mockery.

We have a feeling this incident will only leave Rubio in more dire need of a hug.
