One Dead, Several Injured After Scary Ride Crash At The Ohio State Fair — See The Disturbing Video

An amusement ride at the Ohio State Fair severely malfunctioned on Wednesday, killing one man and injuring seven others.

Riders were sent hurling through the air from the spinning, swinging Fire Ball ride after a row of seats straight up crashed into a side barrier.

The incident occurred on the Columbus fair’s opening day at about 7:20 p.m., per the Columbus Dispatch. Five people are in critical condition at nearby hospitals, while two others are in stable condition.

The 24-seat “aggressive thrill ride” swings like a pendulum and revolves at a speed of of 15 rpm, according to information from Dutch ride-maker KMG‘s website.

Video captured by a fair attendee shows the ride swinging back and forth before a row of seats smashes against the side of the attraction’s platform, throwing riders to the ground.

Columbus Fire Division Chief Steve Martin said the deceased victim was flung into the air and killed upon hitting the ground about 50 feet away.

Ohio governor John Kasich ordered a full investigation following the accident, noting that “all fair rides be shut down until additional safety inspections can be completed.” He tweeted:

State Fair organizers released a statement Wednesday with a message to the victims’ families, noting the fair will resume Thursday as scheduled upon completion of the safety inspection:

Our hearts go out to the victims and their families involved in this completely avoidable tragedy.
