Stephen Colbert Blames His Double-Digit Weight Gain On Trump!

President Donald Trump may be the best thing to happen to The Late Show‘s ratings, but he’s the worst thing to happen to Stephen Colbert‘s waistline!

The comedian appeared on the cover of this month’s InStyle and admitted the chaos of the current White House administration hasn’t left him in the best shape:

“I think I’ve gained 15 pounds since Donald Trump became president.”

LOLz! Oh wait, he’s serious…

The late night host remembered the downfall of his health began on election night, when The Late Show was broadcast live and, like America, expected a much different outcome.

Not knowing what else to do, Colbert turned to the drink. He recalled:

“I just drank. I drank a lot of bourbon onscreen. We didn’t know what to do.”

Well, that fateful night ended up blessing the politically-inclined comedian with a cartoonishly evil Commander in Chief to make fun of every night — which gave him a commanding lead in the late night ratings.

That’s good news, especially since Colbert’s enthusiasm to continue hosting the show completely depends on how well it goes! He admitted:

“Literally, it’s a day-to-day proposition. I feel as good as last night’s show. Last night’s show went well, and the night before went well, and when I feel good, I’m like, ├óΓé¼╦£I can do 10 years of this!’ Now, if tonight’s show for some reason doesn’t go well, you can ask me tomorrow and I’ll be like, ├óΓé¼╦£Yeah, there’s no way I can do this for another three years.’├óΓé¼ΓÇ░”

That mindset could have something to do with the 53-year-old’s history with panic attacks before and after performing.

When he was getting started at Chicago’s famous Second City improv group in the late ├óΓé¼╦£80s, getting to the stage didn’t always go smoothly. He remembered:

“In my late 20s, early 30s, I had a nervous breakdown. I was subject to panic attacks and stuff like that except when I was onstage. I would curl up in a ball on a couch backstage, and then I’d hear my cue coming up, and I would uncurl, go onstage, do the show, and then go offstage and curl up again.”

Yikes. Thankfully he pushed through the nerves, because now things are only looking up for the Emmy winner (who will also be hosting this year’s Emmys, BTW.)

Don’t worry about those extra lbs, Stephen — you never looked better!
