The girls are back!!
British pop trio Bananarama — ├óΓé¼ΓÇ╣Siobhan Fahey, Sara Dallin, and Keren Woodward — has reunited for a reunion tour, 30 years after the original three split.
With Siobhan back after decades, fans have been thrilled for the ladies’ big return to the stage. Not only will they tour the UK, but the US as well, with four dates in 2018.
We were lucky enough to EXCLUSIVELY catch up with Keren when the big USA news broke! Ch-ch-check out our Q&A (below) where we find out about their reunion, what the ladies think of girl groups of today, and more!
Fans are quite excited on social media. What can they expect from the tour? “We’re currently rehearsing in London. Our UK shows begin in a month’s time, so we’re all getting really excited. We’ve chosen our set list now ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ which includes most of our hits and some fan favourites. The whole show is one big party. The idea of the three of us touring together first came about after a kitchen disco at Siobhan’s house – so we’ve been telling people our show is the kitchen disco come to life! Everyone on social media has been so positive. The news of our live dates totally exceeded our expectations!”
Siobhan said when she was asked to return to the group, she was in tears and over joyed. What was the initial reunion like for the three of you after being apart for so long? “Sara and I never stopped performing as Bananarama and have played shows all over the world, so we know how much fun it is singing our songs in front of a live audience. At the infamous kitchen disco we told Siobhan this ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ and we still don’t think she realizes quite how amazing it’s going to feel. The three of us have met up several times over the last few years ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ in fact, we all went out dancing with our kids in Los Angeles a couple of years ago! When we called Siobhan just before Christmas last year to ask her how she’d feel about coming back to playing some shows with us she was actually quite speechless! Once we announced the reunion and the tickets started to sell so well ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ I think we all felt a bit emotional! But yes, she has shed an odd tear, it’s true!”
You all had your fair share of growth and differences over the years ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ but today, everything is played out on social media for the world to see. What do you think of girl groups like Fifth Harmony? They parted ways with a member in 2016, and the drama was intense. “The main difference between us and a band like Fifty Harmony is that we were all friends who formed a band. We weren’t auditioned or put together by a record label, management company or TV show. When you├óΓé¼╦£re in a band it’s a 24/ 7 thing. If you don’t get on or like each other things will fall apart very quickly ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ which is what it seems happened with Fifth Harmony. When Siobhan left, we never fell out or had a huge argument. She just wanted to move to America and do something different.”
This year, you all received the Glamour Icons Award ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ what’s it like to be seen as iconic to so many? “It was such a great night and a great honour! We shared a table with Olly Alexander from the band Years and Years. French and Saunders were also there, so it was fun to see them again. It’s actually quite a starry event. Nicole Kidman was on the table next to us.”
What’s your favorite song to perform as a trio? Any specific memories attached to it? “We’ve never actually performed live with Siobhan ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ so we’ll have to let you know!!! Venus is always a good one when we’ve performed it on TV and we recently sang Cruel Summer live on a TV show in the UK. That’s always been one of our favourites. We filmed the video for Cruel Summer in New York and gave the job to any director who could get us to New York for the small budget we had. It was our first US hit, so it carries really special memories for all three of us. Siobhan lives in LA these days and says she often hears it when she’s buying her groceries in the supermarket!”
Are there any artists of today that truly inspire you? “Beyonc├â┬⌐. She’s the most amazing all round performer. There are people with good voices, and people who can dance ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ but she can do everything. Love her!”
