The CMA Awards Reverses Ban On Reporters Asking About Guns & Politics After Brad Paisley & More Stars Speak Out!

The CMA Awards is facing backlash!

The Country Music Association put out a list of guidelines for reporters ahead of next week’s CMA Awards, threatening to kick anyone out for asking about guns or politics.

According to their initial release, they asked reporters to “refrain from focusing [coverage on] … gun rights, political affiliations or topics of the like” in light of the Las Vegas shooting so attendees will “feel comfortable.”

The restrictions release continued:

“If you are reported as straying from these guidelines, your credential will be reviewed and potentially revoked via security escort.”

Brad Paisley, who will be cohosting alongside Carrie Underwood, already told Rolling Stone they won’t be shying away from the tragedy during the show:

“We’re not going to ignore it, but we’re not going to also dwell on that. We have to make sure we honor those we’ve lost, but we also [have to] celebrate this music, which lives on, and do a good job having the heart we need to have on that night. And also the theme of the show this year is very much about unity and coming together as a format.”

And on Friday, he slammed the CMA on Twitter for trying to put restrictions on topics in place:

Country star Maren Morris followed his lead, also sounding off:

And so did Cam:

In response to the backlash, the Country Music Association released a short statement rescinding the restrictions:

“CMA apologizes for the recently distributed restrictions in the CMA Awards media guidelines, which have since been lifted. The sentiment was not to infringe and was created with the best of intentions to honor and celebrate Country Music.”

Brad praised the CMA Awards for apologizing:

The ban is over. It never should have happened in the first place, but at least they apologized?
