Being Entertainer of the Year requires a lot of entertaining.
The country crooner admitted backstage at the CMA Awards that he lip-synced his performance before winning the night’s biggest honor.
Before being crowded CMA’s Entertainer of the Year for the second consecutive year — and sixth time overall — the musician mimed the words to his hit single of Ask Me How I Know.
“We’re in the middle of 12 shows in 10 days. Not 10 shows in 12 days, 12 shows in 10 days. We did a game-time call on whether to sing the track or lip-sync, and decided to lip-sync. The voice just isn’t there anymore, and you want to represent country music as best you can.”
Hey, at least he’s upfront about it!
The country legend will finally be able to rest up in December, once his Garth Brooks Tour with Trisha Yearwood makes its final stop in Nashville. The two will have played 383 shows since the tour launched in 2014.
The icon really knows how to earn that Entertainer of the Year title!
