Famous hotelier André Balazs is being accused of sexual misconduct.
In a New York Times report published Thursday, Jason Bateman and his wife Amanda Anka confirmed that Balazs, who owns celebrity hotspots like the Mercer in London and Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood, groped Anka’s crotch in November 2014.
The couple was allegedly celebrating the release of Bateman’s film Horrible Bosses 2 at the Chiltern Firehouse, one of Balazs’ London hotels, with costars Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, and the hotelier.
Balazs allegedly insisted the A-list group see a better view of the city by visiting an upstairs room only accessible by a firehouse-style ladder. Because she was wearing a leather dress, Anka was hesitant about climbing the stairs, but Balazs reportedly insisted.
Once she was on the ladder, Balazs allegedly reached his hand up her dress and groped her crotch. Um… WTF!?
Bateman and his castmates became “visibly upset” after the actress told them what had happened, according to the paper. Back downstairs, an irate Bateman allegedly spit his gum in Balazs’ face before quickly leaving the hotel with his wife.
Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Day’s wife, corroborated Anka’s account, telling the Times:
“I witnessed behavior by Andr├â┬⌐ Balazs that was inappropriate and offensive.”
The couple’s publicist confirmed to the outlet that their account of Balazs’s actions that night is “factual,” saying in a statement:
“On behalf of Jason Bateman and Amanda Anka, we can confirm that the account of Andr├â┬⌐ Balazs’s outrageous and vile behavior on that night in London is factual. His actions were dealt with at the time.”
Unsurprisingly, Anka isn’t the only woman to accuse hotelier, who has dated the likes of Uma Thurman and Chelsea Handler, of sexual misconduct. A former Chateau Marmont employee told the Times that Balazs once pinned her against a wall and assaulted her.
Sarah, who worked at the hotel in the early 1990s, claims that her boss once pushed her against a wall, covered her mouth, and “pushed his fingers in her vagina” at a club after the two had dinner — and the employee says she “just froze.”
However, not all employees saw the same treatment. Elodie Trouche, Balazs’ former personal assistant, said she did not witness any inappropriate behavior from the hotelier, telling the Times:
“He was professional and polite. It was about doing the job.”
Based on the report, his pussy-grabbing tactic seems to be reserved for casual interactions at parties — as that’s where a 26-year-old female media executive also claimed the hotelier grabbed her crotch without her consent.
The unnamed woman said she regrets not reporting the alleged incident, in which she claims to be “humiliated” after hotelier, whom she did not know well, grabbed her crotch at a party. Sounds like it’s his regular party trick.
We applaud all these women for coming forward — it’s time to take the power back from these pathetic pussy grabbers!
